Arts and Humanities placement unit

Students regularly choose Huddersfield’s School of Arts and Humanities for their course due to the opportunity of undertaking a placement year.

Working with hundreds of companies in any one year, our industry network database is huge and grows every year, offering students a diverse selection of companies both home and overseas. Undertaking a Placement Year as part of your studies will increase your confidence and skillset, leaving you ready to hit the graduate market with real industry experience under your belt.

Applied Sciences 

The School of Applied Sciences works in partnership with a range of companies both locally and nationally, for example Thornton & Ross, with some students even choosing to do a placement abroad. Our industry network database is extensive and expands each year, meaning our students are offered a wide range of opportunities, with the exception of Pharmacy and Optometry who have placements built into their course, all of our undergraduate courses include an optional placement year. We are available every day, all year round to support our students throughout the process.

Human and Health Sciences

The School of Human and Health Sciences works in partnership with a wide variety of placements reflecting the diversity of its programmes. The specific placement area that you will go to depends on your programme and could include working with the NHS, Huddersfield Giants RLFC, Oldham FC, Barnsley FC, Wakefield Wildcats RLFC, the Ministry of Defence, Kirklees Council, Kirklees Magistrates Courts, Huddersfield Town Academy FC and Calderdale Council. We also partner with a variety of private health care organisations such as BMI Hospital and Cygnet Health Care

Huddersfield Business School employability and placement team 

The Employability and Placement team at Huddersfield Business School supports students to gain professional experience during their time at university, primarily in the form of year-long work placements. We ‌work with employers of all sizes from across all business sectors and have long-standing links with many local employers. Every year we have students undertaking placements in roles as varied as marketing, finance, supply chain and HR, amongst others.  
 
We also support students’ employability more widely, delivering sessions and events throughout the year designed to enhance a wide variety of employability skills and set our students up for future career success.

Computing and Engineering placement team

All our undergraduate courses in Computing and Engineering include an optional year in industry and are supported by our award-winning Placement Unit.  With an excellent track record demonstrating dedication to placing our students with industry partners, they were voted the UKs "Best Placement Service" by students at the "Rate my Placement" awards 2011 and were finalists in 2012 and 2013.  
 
We work alongside industry offering support throughout the recruitment process from advertising through to interview and placement offer. Each year placing around 180 students in companies such as Red Bull Racing, Jaguar Land Rover, Dolby and Aston Martin, as well as a large number of smaller local and regional businesses.  
 
Many of our students return from their placements with sponsorship and the offer of a permanent job from their host company, and this is reflected in our excellent graduate employability record.

The School of Education offer an extensive range of courses that contain integrated placement blocks and shorter enrichment experiences, delivering exciting opportunities within varied and diverse partner settings that empower our students to become work-ready professionals.  
  
We work with a comprehensive range of placement providers where you will receive excellent support from experienced mentors and University academic staff, which is essential in providing you with the skills needed to become confident, engaging and critically reflective in your chosen pathway.  
  
Our partnership schools are situated across the local area including Kirklees, Calderdale, Oldham, Manchester, Rochdale, Wakefield, Barnsley, Bradford and Sheffield.
