Welcome to the Security Services Team

The Security Services team:

• Monitor and operate the University’s comprehensive CCTV system
• Manage the University’s security control room and communications network
• Personal Safety & Property Security Advice
• Responders to all Alarms – Monitor and respond to all alerts, fire, intruder, lift and security alarms
• First Aid Support – First Aid responders across our Huddersfield Campus and all our officers are first aid trained
• Manage the University’s electronic access control system
• Manage lost & found property
• Provide a Safe Space
• Management & Issuing of Keys
• Provide Arranged Access to the Campus
• Issue Contractor Passes (where arranged and authorised)
• Issue Car Parking Passes (where arranged and authorised)

If you have lost an item, please attend the Control Hub at the Harold Wilson Building to report, or call 01484 472221. An alternative would be to email Lost.Property@hud.ac.uk. Photo ID will be required.

We have a really safe campus but it’s important that you feel safe and secure all the time. To ensure our campus remains a safe place to study, work and socialise we have a dedicated security team, who work out of the Security Hub in the Harold Wilson Building, Main Entrance.

The Security Hub is open and staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, monitoring CCTV and to provide security advice and assistance. This includes when you are out and about in town in the evening – if you feel unsafe in any way just go the Security Hub and the Security staff will help and advise, including calling a taxi to help you get home.

The Security Hub is also the place to:

• Report lost or found property - to collect lost property or to arrange a viewing of items, please telephone: 01484 47221 or email: Lost.Property@hud.ac.uk. – photo ID will be required.
• Report lost Student ID card – Security will immediately cancel access on the card, replacements will have to be authorised by your School and are issued at Library Reception.
• Report lights out on Campus – Security will let the campus maintenance team know.
• Report any other safety or security concerns you have – Security will take immediate action when they can and will ensure concerns are reported to the appropriate managers within the University. Click here to find out more about the Incident Report Form

 

Safer Student Police Officer

• Phil Hardy is the Safer Student Officer at the University of Huddersfield.  His role is to aid keeping you safe by offering crime prevention advice and safety tips, either on a one to one basis or in group.  He can also support you with any organised events which would benefit from a police presence.
• You are encouraged to report any suspicious activity/concerns to Phil.
• If you wish to report a crime that doesn’t require an immediate response, call 101 at any time or go to westyorkshire.police.uk/reportcrime.
