Tree Planting Sessions open to all University Staff

Last winter and early spring we had an incredible opportunity to plant trees within Kirklees over three different sites to reforest areas of land in our local community. In total, we had 241 volunteers join us who planted an incredible 2,280 trees! We had great feedback from attendees that it was a fun activity, which people took a lot from.

As part of the University’s Sustainability and Carbon Neutral Strategy, we are continuing to work in partnership with White Rose Forest and Kirklees Council to plant a tree for every new student.

Now is the time of year when trees enter their dormant cycle and are alive but not actively growing, which means it’s a perfect time to plant them. As the tree planting season begins again, we are excited to be running 12 new sessions over two new sites!

The sites (in Holmfirth and in Taylor Hill) will be reforested over 12 half day sessions, running on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (12.30pm-4.00pm) during November 2024, February 2025 and March 2025. All transport, equipment and refreshments will be included.

Now this opportunity is open to all Staff at the University to get involved and plant a tree!

The experience is also an ideal team building activity, to develop coordination and communication skills whilst working together on a collaborative task. All staff are required to please seek their line managers permission to attend a session before making the booking.

(Please note Participants will be confirmed on a first come first serve basis. All final bookings will be confirmed, in the event of low attendance or severe weather conditions bookings may be cancelled, or an alternative session offered).
