National Day for Staff Networks - 8 May

National Day for Staff Networks Event - 8th May

National Day for Staff Networks

Location: Central Lounge (opposite Starbucks - Student Central)
Date/Time: Wednesday 8th May, 12:30pm - 1:30pm

Join our Staff Networks to celebrate National Day for Staff Networks! Chairs and members representing each network and group (B.A.M.E, Disability, LGBTQI+, Neurodiversity, Women's) will be joining us to promote and highlight the benefits of joining these groups!

Our Staff Networks provide a space for connection with colleagues, peer support, and consultation with the University. The contributions of our networks to our activities is invaluable - from the development and contribution to our events (like our recent Neurodiversity Conference!) to policy consultation, there's a varied range of activities network members get involved with.

Reflections from Andrea Gaynor, Staff Disability Network member - on why it's important to have our Staff Networks

1: I feel ‘heard’: the network provides a safe place to discuss any concerns I have about having a hidden disability and working at the University. Whilst I do not keep my disability hidden and I have wonderful colleagues, being able to talk to people who can empathise with me is very important.

2: I feel ‘included’: everyone is welcome regardless of their position in the University or their disability.

3: I feel ‘useful’: it is important for me to be able to act/be involved in the processes to improve the experience of those with a disability and myself.  The staff disability network has helped me to realise this, for example, I have been involved in the Accessibility Tours (these check for accessibility issues on campus), discussions about the upcoming Health Adjustment Passport and the accessible facilities on campus (including the new builds).
