Upcoming Upgrade to Windows 11

Microsoft Windows 10 will reach end of support in September 2025. As a result of this, all University-owned staff laptops, staff desktops and student PCs will be upgraded to Windows 11.

On student devices, this update will be installed by technicians over summer 2024.

For staff laptops, an optional upgrade will be made available around the end of 2024, giving staff the option to upgrade early.

Staff desktops and laptops will then be automatically upgraded from the start of 2025 through to the summer.

The Windows 11 update is primarily a feature update and will not be a significant change to the way of working for most staff and students. There are some new features and benefits, including improved security, performance and accessibility features.

If your device is not capable of running Windows 11, then IT staff, your school or service, will discuss options available to you.
