Demolition of the Researcher Hub block, including The Sir George Buckley Lecture Theatre and Edith Key Buildings
The Researcher Hub and Sir George Buckley Lecture Theatre have been with us since 1965 and Edith Key since 1972.
Modern needs have overtaken the design of these three interlinked buildings and the original designs no longer work for modern University needs.
The demolition works to the three buildings is scheduled to commence 20 July, following graduation and will take place over the summer period with completion expected to be the first week in September.
The walkway from the Spärck Jones bridge passing the Jo Cox More in Common Centre will be kept open for as long as possible until the demolition passes the pinch point where the central building demolition takes place and then be closed off for safety until the works pass beyond allowing a safe passage.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst works are taking place and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions please contact the Helpdesk: estates@hud.ac.uk.
