As Black History Month kicked off this month in the UK, the University’s Nigerian society hosted a huge event in early October to celebrate their 63rd Independence Day. The event was sponsored by the International Office and included extended sponsorship from the Students’ Union also.

Joined by hundreds of students from Nigeria, the UK, Algeria, Ukraine, India to name but a few, the event featured a selection of dance, music, culture, games, and food. The event rides on the recent success of the University receiving TEF Gold for the student experience and continues to build on the success of the global campus events featured in Huddersfield.

International Student Experience Manager, Alan Tobi said; “Each year, these global society events get bigger and better and is exciting to see the pleasure it brings to our students. Giving them the opportunity to share their cultures on campus and for others to engage is very rewarding and demonstrates the world-class student experience that the University has to offer. We work very hard with our students to ensure their time at the University is a pleasurable one and that we integrate well to achieve student satisfaction. A huge thank you to our Nigerian society for hosting and arranging a wonderful event and I hope many more to come.”

The Nigerian society President, Lilian Ugboaja, said; “It is an honour to lead a great group of people and have such an amazing event celebrating Nigeria’s diversity and the beauty of who we are as a people. The event was a success because of the hard work of various Nigerian students who wholeheartedly support what we do as a global society here at the University. There is no greater joy that what I experienced at this event. Truly a memorable night that I won’t forget in a hurry.”
