Inter-Schools Tournament Winners Announced

The annual University school’s sports tournament returned in October 2023 hosted by Active Hud.

The tournament took place in the University Sports Hall and was a school versus school competition inviting students to contend by playing three sports: badminton, table tennis and volleyball. The tournament had over 200 students registered this year and saw a last-minute surge from the School of Computing and Engineering who just came through in the final badminton match to claim victory for a second year running. They lifted the trophy which will now be displayed in the entrance to the University library and have their school etched onto the winners’ shield.

“This event was nice as I got to talk to people who I would necessarily go up and start a conversation with. I also enjoyed the fact I was able to play against people are all abilities which helped to boost my confidence and technique. Having a friendly competition like this is a great way put any new skills to practice with help from people who can already do the skill very well." said Human and Health student, Nia Jenkinson

Active Hud Manager, Matt Ashford said, “Running an event like this is a fantastic opportunity for students to meet and interact with students from their school. The tournament brings together students from different backgrounds to compete against each other. The immediate feedback from the competing students was very positive and we were asked when we would do it again! “

The event was also supported by the International Office and their International Student Experience Manager, Alan Tobi also commented; “It is very encouraging to see the popularity of this event growing, year-on-year and so many of our students participating. The tournament goes a long way to supporting friendships and new experiences for our students through the love of sport. It is important that we provide these opportunities allowing our students to get the best out of their time at the University.”

Eng Hee Ng from the Business School said,  “Joining the games is another way to meet friends across the uni as my daily routine dealt mostly within the Business School. It's great to have the chance to know someone from another discipline, play the match together and have fun!"

Many more events are planned, and the Inter-School tournament will return in 2024.
