Kirklees Council will be undertaking junction improvement works at the above location between 12 July and 22 of August 2021. The works are being delivered as part of a package of corridor improvement schemes across the region to enable development and support economic growth. The Queen Street South works will reshape the existing traffic islands on the approach to the Huddersfield ring road to make Queen Street South a more viable option for busses and long vehicles.
In order to deliver the works safely the following traffic restrictions will need to be deployed during the construction period:
- Northbound Lane Closure of Queen Street South
This will be in force for the first three weeks of the job, on weekdays only, between 07:30 and 19:00hrs. Vehicles will not be permitted to travel north on Queen Street South through the site, although access to destinations south of the site will be permitted. Temporary signing will be in place to direct vehicles seeking to reach the ring road from the south along B6432 Firth Street, B6432 Colne Road, A616 Chapel Hill, and A62 Queensgate. Vehicles seeking to travel south on Queen Street South will be able to do so. - Full Closure of Queen Street South at the Site Extents
This will be in force for the last week of the job, between 19:00 and 06:00hrs. Vehicles will not be permitted to travel north or south through the site extents. In addition to the temporary signage for the northbound closure described above, temporary signs will also be in place to direct vehicles seeking to reach the unaffected length of Queen Street South from the ring road. This southbound route will direct traffic south on the A616 Chapel Hill and then east on the B6432 Colne Road.
Kirklees Council is currently undertaking highway works on various sites within the district. Should we encounter any unforeseen difficulties on any of these sites, it may become essential to amend the current works programme meaning the above dates could potentially change and it may become necessary to reschedule the works.
The street must be kept clear of all parked vehicles and obstructions. The contractor will erect signs giving details of dates and times of works. Any vehicles left on site which obstruct the works may be removed and a charge levied for their release.
Residents/occupiers who may need their cars during the full road closure should park outside the works extents. Access for businesses and residences will be maintained when safe to do so, but long delays are possible. Please take great care when passing these works for your safety and that of our operatives.
Please respect our workers' space and safety by driving carefully and slowly through the roadworks. Threatening behaviour or abuseĀ· to our staff and operatives will not be tolerated. Feedback from our workers shows that too many drivers travel far too fast through road works. Everyone is entitled to a safe workplace.
Every effort will be made to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum and the Highway Design Team apologise for any inconvenience caused to you. If you have any concerns about the work please contact this department on the above contact details. By contacting us you give consent for Kirklees Council to hold your details to process your reason for communication, which will be shared with teams within the Council if necessary, in relation to that communication.
