On Tuesday 5 March, Professor Dame Jane Jiang attended a gala reception at Buckingham Palace.  The event, hosted by The Queen, was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales and to honour the contribution the Prince has made to the national life of Wales over the past half-century.

The varied guest list was drawn from Welsh charities, organisations and businesses Prince Charles has supported and included the band Stereophonics, Simon Weston and Game of Thrones actor, Owen Teale.  Professor Jiang was invited in her capacity as a member of the Wales Science and Innovation Advisory Council.

The event was attended by members of the Royal Family including The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Princess Royal.  The Prime Minister Theresa May and the Archbishop of Canterbury were also present.

The Prince was formally invested as the 21st Prince of Wales on 1 July 1969 at Caernarfon Castle and the investiture regalia worn by him was on display.

The reception included a musical performance by students of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama who performed a piece specially written for the occasion by Welsh composer Paul Mealor.
