Metrology Hub PhD student project awarded a prize in international competition

Hub PhD student Yue Liu’s project on 3D measurement of free form LCD screens was awarded second prize in the Advanced Manufacture category at the Chunhui Cup Competition held in China in December 2019.

The competition is organised by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology and is for Chinese nationals who are researching, studying or working overseas.  The competition is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in areas such as new materials, advanced manufacturing and new energy sources and has been held annually since 2006.

The first round of the competition for the North of England was held in Manchester in July 2019.  There was a second-round in China and Yue’s project was one of only 300 from around the world to make the final in Guangzhou in December.  Prize winners in the competition have the opportunity to forge links with industry and capital resources in China in order to develop their projects into viable businesses.
