Manufacturing Technologies Appreciation Course

A packed 3-day programme of theoretical and applied training was recently provided to two members of the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) by staff from the Metrology Hub.

The training programme was specially designed to provide an overview of manufacturing from concept and design through manufacture to verification. It and gave the participants, Joshua Dugdale and Sami Ortiz, an appreciation of the strengths and weaknesses in current manufacturing technologies, beyond the sales pitch. To keep it light, they were given access to the state of the art technology available in the Metrology Hub, including the Renishaw (XM-60), Hexagon portable measuring arm and Zeiss CMM as well as an array of machine tools and engineering software.

Josh and Sami had nothing but praise for the training and delivery by Hub staff Simon Fletcher, Andrew Bell and Andrew Longstaff.  Josh said ‘It’s been wonderful – a good mix of hands-on and theoretical activities.  The practical experience really reinforces the theory’.

The Metrology Hub are long-standing members of the MTA and Andrew and Simon sit on their Technical Committee. Working together with the association and other partners, the Hub is raising awareness and solving some of the bigger challenges in real-world advanced manufacturing.
