Huddersfield among world’s top universities for 14 subjects in 2025 QS Rankings

The University of Huddersfield has been named as one of the world’s top universities in 14 subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025.
This is the highest-ever number of ranked subjects for the University.
It includes two subjects in the Top 100 and 10 subjects in the Top 500 in the world. Compared to the previous year, three new subjects have been ranked for the first time, which are Accounting & Finance, Economics & Econometrics, and Medicine.
The 2025 edition of the rankings, released this month by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, names the world’s best universities for the study of 55 academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas.
Highlights for the University of Huddersfield include:
- Performing Arts – ranked 37th in the world
- Petroleum Engineering – placed in the top 100 globally
- Nursing – listed in the top 225 in the world
In total, the 14 subjects where the University of Huddersfield is named among the world’s top universities are: Performing Arts, Petroleum Engineering, Nursing, English Language & Literature, Communication & Media Studies, Architecture / Built Environment, Education, Engineering - Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing, Accounting & Finance, Engineering - Electrical & Electronic, Business & Management Studies, Economics & Econometrics, Computer Science & Information Systems, and Medicine.
The University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for International, Professor Alistair Sambell commented: “I am pleased to see that 14 subjects have now achieved formal ranking in the 2025 QS world university subject rankings. This is the highest number of subjects receiving a formal QS ranking for the University.
“This includes two subjects in the Top 100 and 10 subjects in the world’s top 500 for their discipline. This is great recognition for the outstanding work of colleagues across the institution and a continued improvement on an international stage. I want to congratulate our students, researchers, educators, and professional staff on this achievement.”
The QS World University Rankings provide an independent analysis of the performance of more than 16,400 individual university programmes, with 1,747 universities in 148 locations around the world included in the final publication.
The top locations by number of ranked institutions are USA, China, UK, France, India, Germany and Italy. This year there were also 171 newcomer universities from around the world who entered the rankings for the first time.
