Spotlight on women researchers at latest in public lecture series

The University of Huddersfield is putting the spotlight on women researchers with its latest in a series of public lectures.
Taking place the same month as International Women’s Day, the Research in Conversation: Women in Research event is being held on campus shortly.
The event aims to explore the groundbreaking female-led research being conducted across the University as well as present an opportunity to hear the unique journeys of women in research at the institution.
The free event will be split into two sessions, with the option of attending either sessions, or both.
There will be an interview panel where you can hear the stories behind the successes, challenges, and breakthroughs from women across various academic disciplines.
The event, Research in Conversation: Women in Research takes place on Wednesday, 26 March 2025 from 3.30pm in the University’s Oastler Building and will be hosted by Sue Cooke, CEO of the University’s 3M Buckley Innovation Centre.
There are two sessions - the first runs from 4pm to 5pm with a panel comprising Acting Dean of the School of Computing and Engineering Dr Leigh Fleming, English Literature Lecturer Dr Iona Murphy, Professor of Pharmaceutical Analysis Laura Waters and Senior Lecturer in Law Dr Kikelomo Kila.
The second session is from 5.30pm to 6.30pm with Research Fellow for Clean Energy Technologies Dr Gina Javanbakht, Huddersfield Business School's Professor Shona Bettany, and Dr Jialin (Snow) Wu, Reader in Sustainable and Digitalized Service Economy at Huddersfield Business School, on the panel.
There will also be plenty of opportunities for networking plus an exhibition of work from the University’s early career researchers for inspiration.

The Research in Conversation events are an opportunity for the University to share its research to all those interested. They feature talks around various topics of interest, hearing directly from the University’s experts in their respective fields.
The monthly series of accessible and informative events are free and are open to members of the public, students and staff alike.
Each lecture gives the audience the opportunity to get involved via a question-and-answer session, as well as the chance to network with like-minded individuals.
The lectures are part of the University’s celebrations to mark 200 years of technical and professional education in Huddersfield with a series of events and activities throughout 2025.

The anniversary marks the establishment of Huddersfield’s Scientific and Mechanic Institute in 1825.
The University of Huddersfield and other partners are organising a range of events and activities to celebrate the learning environment across Huddersfield and the wider Kirklees district.
The institute itself hosted public lectures and evening classes for adults and helped lay the groundwork for the establishment of other adult education opportunities in the town including the Young Men’s Mental Improvement Society in 1841, from which the University can directly trace its history.
