The University of Huddersfield's Dr Natasha Levy has been named as Educator of the Year by the Flexitol Tomorrow’s Podiatry awards.

Senior lecturer in Podiatry in the University’s School of Human and Health Sciences, Dr Levy is the second academic from Huddersfield to receive this prestigious award, following Neville Parker’s win in 2023  .

Glowing testimonies from her students played a large part in Dr Levy’s success, being described as, “…the most supportive tutor, her passion for teaching shines through so much”, and “…an inspiring lecturer who encourages students in their learning with kind, constructive criticism."

Dr Levy joined the University in 2010, and specialises in teaching around podiatry in high-risk patients with final year students with a mix of clinical sessions, practical workshops and lectures.

“The aim is always to try to give them confidence, because they're about to switch into being autonomous practitioners,” says Dr Levy.

“I show them research about why we're interested in these patient groups, and the kind of national and international guidelines that should support their decision making and give them to confidence in their own abilities.”

Podiatry students at the University take advantage of the cutting-edge facilities at their disposal in the Daphne Steele Building, including the public-facing Podiatry Clinic which moved to this new facility on the National Health Innovation Campus in autumn 2024 from its previous home in the Ramsden Building.

Dr Levy, who has served as a trustee of the Society for Tissue Viability and is on the editorial board for the International Wound Journal, is delighted with her award, adding, “The comments in the nomination are quite humbling.

"I try to adapt my teaching, taking into account how my students are doing per session and I always say that there is no such thing as a stupid question. It’s really lovely that they are so happy with what we are providing for our students at Huddersfield.”
