The University of Huddersfield has placed top in the UK in the global Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024.
The latest THE league table lists the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. The results show the University of Huddersfield is the highest-placed young university in the UK and is ranked 88th internationally.
The universities are judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. Huddersfield scored particularly well in the research quality and international outlook categories.
More than 1,100 institutions were considered in the 2024 rankings, with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, topping the league table for the second year in a row. Other UK universities featuring behind Huddersfield include Plymouth, Bournemouth, Northumbria and Portsmouth.
Professor Alistair Sambell, Pro Vice-Chancellor for International, commented: “Huddersfield’s position as the top young University in the UK in these THE world rankings reflects the University’s growing global stature, built on the outstanding teaching and research delivered by internationally-renowned staff.”
The announcement of the 2024 rankings comes after successes for the University of Huddersfield in the last 12 months which include receiving a Gold rating in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework, reflecting the University’s commitment to providing an exceptional student experience and fostering excellent student outcomes.
In addition, Huddersfield Business School was named the Business School of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards 2023. The judges commended the School for how it has embedded itself in the local region, with an emphasis on supporting communities and recognised the numerous local projects driven by the Business School, creating jobs and boosting local businesses.
Furthermore, in the 2024 QS World University Rankings By Subject, the University of Huddersfield was named as one of the world's top universities in 13 subjects and in the top 300 for ten of those subjects, including Music, Performing Arts, Communication & Media Studies and Nursing.
