The University of Huddersfield welcomed Rupert Campbell, Former President of adidas North America and Oli Smith, Founder and Creative Director of Smith to the Masterclass in Marketing webinar series.

Since its launch in 2022, Huddersfield Business School's Masterclass in Marketing series has welcomed various business academics and industry professionals to deliver online webinars. We've previously welcomed Matt Cowling, Head of Marketing for North America at Hewlett Packard (HP), Jeff Boachie, Acquisition Manager at Shelter UK and Conrad Bird CBE, Head of Marketing and Campaigns at the UK Cabinet Office, to name a few. This term, we hosted two webinars focused on branding.

We had the privilege of welcoming Rupert Campbell for his talk on ‘Winning with Brand Marketing in a Global Organisation’. As the former President of adidas North America, Rupert Campbell oversaw all adidas operations in the United States and Canada and was responsible for driving the vision and culture for the team. Hailing from Huddersfield, Rupert brought a wealth of international experience to our masterclass. This exclusive masterclass received outstanding feedback from both our students and external business network.

We also welcomed Oli Smith, Founder and Creative Director of SMITH, for his talk on 'Why brand matters?'. SMITH is a creative and strategic brand, design and marketing consultancy based in Huddersfield. Born and raised in Huddersfield, Oli set up SMITH in 2014 straight out of university. Oli’s passion for the town and belief in its future led to the creation of Let’s Go Huddersfield, a webpage that spreads positivity about the town and shines a light on all the thriving villages in Huddersfield.

It was a pleasure to be able to share knowledge with Huddersfield Business School. My masterclass was all about how brand matters, especially in the context of small to medium businesses. I talked about how brand impacts all the ways a business makes money, from pricing, recruitment to sales. I hope the students learnt a lot about how small businesses see brands, and how if fully understood and embedded into a business it can help drive growth.

The Masterclass in Marketing series is a collaborative effort between the student Marketing Society and the academic team. These webinars offer students invaluable extracurricular opportunities to enhance their marketing knowledge and gain practical insights, bridging the gap between theory and practice through real-world examples shared by industry experts. Additionally, we invite alumni and external audiences, showcasing our commitment to public and community engagement.

 

The Masterclass in Marketing Series exemplifies the power of collaborative efforts between students and staff. I take particular pride in our series being accessible to the broader public and our external partners, showcasing our dedication to community engagement through student-led initiatives.

The Masterclass in Marketing series is a brilliant extra-curricular activity for marketing and business students.
