A Huddersfield Business School graduate has triumphed at the Alumni Awards organised by the British Council in Vietnam.
Thanh Thi Hai Nguyen, who graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2012 after studying for an MSc in International Business Management, picked up the Award for Business and Innovation at the Study UK Alumni Awards 2024.
Also known as Nicole, she was among four winners on the night who were honoured for their contributions to Business and Innovation, Culture and Creativity, Science and Sustainability, as well as Social Action.
Her efforts have been praised by Professor Alistair Sambell, Acting Dean of the University’s School of Business, Education and Law, and Pro Vice-Chancellor International, who said in a personal video message: “I’d like to congratulate Thanh Thi Hai Nguyen for winning the Business and Innovation Award in Vietnam. It’s wonderful to hear that you’ve achieved such success since graduating from our International Business Management MSc in 2012.
“Well done on all the hard work that’s led to you achieving this award. I wish you continued success for the future from everyone at the University of Huddersfield.”
Nicole is a co-founder of APAC DAO – one of Asia’s largest B2B networks for over 2,000 blockchain businesses with educational and business connection activities.
She is also the ASEAN regional vice-president of the Global Impact Fintech Forum, collaborating with visionary leaders, central banks, and Fintech associations to promote the adoption of Fintech on a global scale.
She is supporting the establishment of Tech Vietnam Advocates, the local chapter of Tech London Advocates, to strengthen co-operation between Vietnam, the UK and the World when it comes to technology; and is also the honorary advisor of the BRICS Chamber of Commerce – Women Entrepreneurship Vertical, joining global female leaders to inspire and support potential female entrepreneurs.
In her application, Nicole praised the University of Huddersfield for setting the solid foundation for her current career, saying the quality of the UK education she received helped foster her business management skills, adaptiveness and a global mindset.
She added that she was inspired to become a leader in her following career endeavours thanks to studying in the UK at the University of Huddersfield.
Nicole, who was vice-president of the Vietnamese Society during her postgraduate studies at the University, said: “My time at University of Huddersfield is one of the best memories and learning experiences that I have ever got. The open, accommodating and dynamic environment in the UK and Huddersfield allowed me to expand my horizons and gather skills and motivation for my career in building and bridging tech ecosystems between Southeast Asia and other parts of the world”
She was one of three shortlisted in the Business and Innovation category at the Study UK Alumni Awards 2024, with the winners announced at a ceremony in Hanoi, Vietnam, on December 1.
The Awards themselves celebrate the outstanding achievements of alumni and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, professions, and countries.
Nicole’s win follows Huddersfield Business School being named the Business School of the Year at the prestigious Times Higher Education Awards 2023 in December. The School has also recently been shortlisted in the Educate North Awards 2024 in the Business School of the Year category.
