How to bring environmental science into the heart of the UK textiles and fashion sector will be at the heart of a discussion at the University of Huddersfield when it hosts the Future Fibres Network+ Sandpit Meeting on 3rd September.

Huddersfield is one of five universities – Plymouth, Leeds, Exeter and University of the Arts (London) - that comprises the £1.6m Future Fibres Network+ (FFN+). It is also a partner in a project led by the UK Fashion and Textiles Association (UKFT) that aims to prevent thousands of tonnes of waste textiles from going into landfill, and a project led by University of Leeds - Back to Baselines in Circular Fashion and Textiles Network.

The meeting will be hosted by Professor Parik Goswami, Director of Technical Textiles Research Centre, who was also the first academic to join the board of UKFT in 2021.

“We would like to invite stakeholders from across a broad spectrum to the meeting,” says Professor Goswami.

"Anyone from the fashion and textile supply chain, be it a material manufacturer, a distributor, designer, buyer or a water company, or companies involved in recycling clothes, has an interest in improving the sustainability of fashion and textiles."

“If you care about making the future of your industry sustainable and closing this loop, we would love to welcome you to the Create Lab in our wonderful Barbara Hepworth Building, the home of our textile and fashion courses, on 3 and 4 September.”

Register for the meeting.
