The University of Huddersfield has received a funding boost from the Office for Students (OfS) that will help to strengthen its range of degree apprenticeships.

The allocation of £249,379 is part of £12m earmarked by the OfS to increase the number of Level 6 apprenticeships available in higher education in England.

Huddersfield is one of 51 universities that bid successfully for money that will go towards funding degree apprenticeships at the university, which are:

The Chartered Manager apprenticeship will create a pathway for employers to train and retain their talented employees who wish to progress from the university’s Professional Manager Level 5 apprenticeship to the Chartered Manager Level 6.

The OfS funding allows the university to offer the opportunity to graduates of the Chartered Manager Level 6 to achieve further career success as a Senior Leader on our Level 7 apprenticeship.

Apprentice provision earns Ofsted outstanding rating

In addition to retaining talent in our region, all three degree apprenticeships will help the university support the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, and help it to continue to establish itself as Yorkshire’s leading provider of apprenticeships to the healthcare sector.

Huddersfield’s apprenticeships provision saw it awarded an outstanding rating by Ofsted in November 2023, making the first university to be given this rating for its apprenticeships for four years.

Brian Culleton, Director of Apprenticeships, said, “We are incredibly proud to be awarded this funding as it reflects the confidence of the OfS in our commitment to skills development through apprenticeships, enhancing employment opportunities, and meeting the evolving needs of our employer partners.  The OfS funding will contribute to creating impactful apprenticeships that not only benefit our learners but also contribute to the economic growth and vitality of our region."
