Professor Dilanthi Amaratunga from the University of Huddersfield’s Global Disaster Resilience Centre (GDRC) has been recognised for the benefits of showing kindness in leadership.
She has been named in the Kindness and Leadership 50 Leading Lights list that was released on the recent World Kindness Day.
A globally recognized expert in disaster resilience, Professor Amaratunga is Co-Director of the GDRC, which works with stakeholders across the world to anticipate, plan for and reduce disaster risks.
“It’s rare to see a person of her calibre and profile, especially with many responsibilities and duties, being considerate and well-connected with fellow employees,” a colleague told the 50 Leading Lights campaign.
“Thanks to Professor Dilanthi, all the members of the GDRC share a working culture that fosters inclusion and belonging.
"She has excellent instincts in reading the talents and capabilities of those around her, and I have felt she knows my capabilities and strengths more than I know myself. She guides towards ideal opportunities for all her employees and coaches them, investing much of her time and effort.”
Pinky Lilani CBE, founder of the Kindness and Leadership 50 Leading Lights, added, “These phenomenal leaders exemplify the profound impact of kindness. They clearly demonstrate that kindness is a potent force that can foster trust, build confidence, cultivate thriving workplace cultures and transform lives. Kindness is the currency that empowers and it’s absolutely key to leadership in this complex and uncertain world.”
