School of Human and Health Sciences announces fully funded PhD opportunities with key strategic external partners.
The School of Human and Health Sciences is excited to announce that, as part of its growth in funded PhD scholarships, it has been awarded £250,000 of University Research Funding to offer fully funded PhD studentships in partnership with four of the School’s key strategic external partners.
Compared to the School's other fully funded studentships, these four 'In Residence' PhDs present a unique opportunity. Each will involve an ongoing placement within the relevant organisation providing the successful applicant with an exciting opportunity to be embedded into the organisation from the outset, helping to ensure that their studies have real-world relevance and impact. The four key partners supporting this exciting initiative are:
• Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) to develop and evaluate a leisure centre-based physical activity programme to improve health-related quality of life and health behaviours
• National Energy Action (NEA) to explore the impact of the current energy crisis on palliative and end of life care.
• Talking Forward to investigate the wider harms of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) offending on the families of those under investigation/convicted.
• West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) to explore how to reduce the risk of fire and accidents within vulnerable groups.
School Director of Graduate Education Dr Dawn Leeming and School Director of External Engagement Dr Leanne Monchuk said, “We are delighted to have been awarded funding to launch these new ‘in residence’ PhDs. The topics have been co-designed with our external partners to ensure that they are topical, in areas which lend themselves to advanced research study and that the findings can be used to shape policy and practice and lead to impact.
“The PhDs provide an excellent opportunity for successful applicants to be embedded within these organisations and access data and resources relevant to their studies. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our colleagues at KAL, NEA, Talking Forward and WYFRS for agreeing to be part of this exciting opportunity.”
The PhDs will commence in October 2023 and are open to UK-based students. The PhD researcher will receive a stipend matched to UKRI rates (currently £17,668 p.a. for full-time) and financial support with fieldwork costs and conference attendance.
The deadline for applications is Friday 26 May 2023 and all relevant information, including other scholarships available in the School of Human and Health Sciences, can be found here:
