Huddersfield Business School has developed a new brand identity incorporating beautiful hand-drawn sketches by illustrator Emily’s Notebook. The new illustrations have been incorporated into a wide range of internal and external marketing collateral to build a representation of the School’s values, culture, vision, and mission.
The brand identity represents the diversity and vibrancy of Huddersfield Business School while also highlighting the attractiveness and appeal of the campus.
Emily’s relationship with the School began in 2019 when she became the Confederation of British Industry’s (CBI’s) member on the School’s Advisory Board. Following the launch of Emily’s Notebook, in 2021, Huddersfield Business School commissioned a series of drawings as part of its ongoing brand development.
Emily said: “While visiting the School one day, I decided to sketch the Charles Sikes Building on my lunch break as it is a very striking building surrounded by beautiful landscapes, with an interesting blend of rich history and modern facilities. Both Huddersfield Business School and the campus offer a wealth of resources from a sketchbook artist’s point of view. Capturing the diversity of the School in the colour pallet was incredibly important.”
Emily founded her company when she discovered the benefit of drawing for her mental health and well-being. She is passionate about supporting people to pick up a sketchbook and give drawing a go and she now provides a range of online sketching courses and weekly free online sessions.
Emily has also attended campus to give students a drawing tutorial where they gain confidence in sketching, boost creativity, lower stress levels, and promote mental calmness. The School hopes to continue to work with Emily on various initiatives.
Professor Jill Johnes, Dean of Huddersfield Business School, said: “We are delighted with the artwork Emily has produced as part of our new brand identity. As a School, we are enormously proud of our high-quality facilities and our beautiful grounds. Emily has done a terrific job capturing the richness of our campus, which has given our School’s brand identity a new lease of life. We are confident that the images capture the essence of the School that all our communities near and far (students, staff, alumni and organisations) will recognise and engage with.”
