More awards for University’s skin and wound care research

The University of Huddersfield’s work around wound infection and skin integrity by the Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention (ISIaIP) has been further recognised with several global awards.

The Journal of Wound Care’s World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) Awards saw the University take a silver award in the Contribution to Education in Wound Care category. This was in recognition of the Wounds Week international conference held in partnership with the Journal of Wound Care and the University’s ISIaIP, which is hosted twice a year and which continued during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And in the Innovation in Surgical Site Infection category, the University was awarded a bronze medal for its work in Antimicrobial Stewardship and Antimicrobial resistance. Named in the awards were Professor Karen Ousey from the School of Human and Health Sciences, Director of the ISIaIP, and Professor Barbara Conway, Head of Pharmacy from the School of Applied Sciences who is the co-director of ISIaIP.

Professor Ousey is also elected chair for the International Wound Infection Institute (IWII), which was awarded bronze in the most progressive society category and additionally won gold in the Supporting Societies Competition for the 2020 Wound Infection Consensus document.

“We are delighted that the hard work of so many people at the University has been recognised by these awards,” says Professor Ousey.

“We had to learn how to work in a very different way from March 2020 onwards, and we have seamlessly hosted our Wounds Week conferences online. We are committed to improving the quality of life for patients with a ‘bench to bedside’ approach that allows our research to be translated into practice.”
