Huddersfield Business School is delighted to be able to host the 54th Academy of Marketing conference here at the University of Huddersfield next week. It is the biggest UK conference for marketing academics.
The Academy of Marketing has an excellent reputation among academics both in the UK and internationally and this year Huddersfield Business School is expected to welcome over 300 delegates, across 106 universities from 26 different countries, as far afield as Japan, Brazil, and Egypt.
The Academy of Marketing is a Learned Society that caters to the needs of marketing researchers, educators, and professionals. The primary purpose of the organisation is to pursue activities and policies which further the professional development of marketing education. The Academy of Marketing encourages and promotes academic research in marketing and supports marketing academics and associated staff as they develop in their careers.
This year’s conference theme is ‘The Fabric of Life’ and will examine the threads of marketing theory, and the exploration of the interwoven patterns that contribute to the ever-evolving tapestry that is marketing. Local heritage is embodied by the history of Huddersfield’s textile industry, which has left a physical and intellectual legacy on the region, and as the conference host, Huddersfield Business School is proud to be able to share stories of the local region’s heritage, culture, and geography throughout the conference.
"I very much look forward to welcoming delegates from around the world to the 54th Academy of Marketing Conference in Huddersfield. After such a long break it will be stimulating to be able to discuss contemporary research themes in a face-to-face environment."
Professor Stuart Roper, Academy of Marketing Conference Chair.
"Its great to see such a diverse range of topics and issues being explored at the conference; we are really pushing the marketing research agenda forward with our scope of workshops, special sessions and tracks!"
Dr Claire McCamley, Academy of Marketing Conference Co-Chair.
The conference will be held in the university’s Oastler Building and will begin on Monday 4th July with the Doctoral Colloquium. The main conference will then follow on Tuesday 5th-Thursday 7th July with a packed programme covering 15 workshops and 53 track sessions.
Workshops and track sessions will see topics such as Post-Covid Place Marketing, Weaving the Digital Fabric of Our Lives: AI in Marketing, and The Impact of Social Media Influencers on Consumers, Businesses, and Society being discussed. Other sessions will also take place throughout the conference including a keynote from Professor Maria Piacentini, Meet the Publishers, and the SIG Fair where academics will get the opportunity to meet the Special Interest Groups of the Academy of Marketing who play an essential role in allowing members and potential members to engage with likeminded researchers throughout the year to enhance the research reputation in key areas.
A drinks reception will take place on the evening of Tuesday 5th of July in the university’s Barbra Hepworth Building, and will be a tribute to the Legacy of Professor Michael J. Baker (1935-2021). Professor Michael J. Baker was an outstanding marketing academic, mentor, and inspiration and is acknowledged by many as the father of academic marketing in the UK. A gala dinner will be held on Wednesday 6th of July at the Venue Bowers Mill, a 17th-century textile mill in Barkisland. The venue aligns perfectly with the conference theme and will give delegates the chance to socialise with fellow marketing academics from across the world and celebrate the conference theme in the heart of a textile mill.
The Academy of Marketing committee is very much looking forward to welcoming all delegates onto the university campus next week.
