Management and leadership expert, Professor Peter Shaw, coaches Huddersfield Business School students

Huddersfield Business School welcomed back Professor Peter Shaw, renowned author, executive coach, and Professor, to provide insight on leadership, teamwork, and career aspirations to its students. 

Professor Peter Shaw was formerly a Director General for the UK Government before moving into coaching work. He has coached senior leaders and teams across six continents and written thirty-one books on aspects of leadership.

The day began with a teaching session about teamwork for its postgraduate taught students. The session covered how to ensure there is a clear vision of what teams need to deliver, what values help guide the way teams operate and make decisions, and how do teams maintain vitality, freshness, openness, and curiosity.

Following this, MBA (Master of Business Administration) students benefited from a one-to-one coaching session with Peter, exploring key questions around their next career steps. Topics included covered crystallizing career aspiration, identifying potential career roadblocks and being clear on how to add value to the next phase of working life.

MBA student, Edward Khan, said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to meet with Professor Shaw. The meeting reflected his expertise in this area and his experience. I found it extremely helpful and received great advice from Peter regarding my career aspirations, my strategy and goals and he helped me fine-tune my thinking a little and provided important feedback on what I am currently undertaking.” 

“The coaching session Peter offered was very worthwhile… Through our session, he managed to help me reframe a current situation at work, which will help me prepare for an important presentation I am due to give.
