Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon is to discuss the influence of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes at a free event hosted by the University of Huddersfield’s Centre for International Contemporary Poetry.

He will also read from his own work in the Diamond Jubilee Lecture Theatre at the Charles Sikes Building on the university’s campus on 13 May, starting at 19:00 BST.

The University is home to the Ted Hughes Network, dedicated to research and study of the West Yorkshire-born former poet laureate, while Heather Clark, its Professor of Contemporary Poetry, released her biography of Plath, Red Comet, to critical acclaim in 2020.

Paul Muldoon has been described by the Times Literary Supplement as “the most significant English-language poet born since the Second World War.” In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, the Northern Ireland-born poet has won the Seamus Heaney Award for Arts and Letters and the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry among many accolades.

The event is free, with registration required via Eventbright.
