Leading health sector boss set to join University’s Governing Council
Huddersfield’s Delroy Beverley, alumnus of Oxford and Cambridge University Business Schools, Companion of the Chartered Management Institute and Member of the Institute of Directors, has accepted an invitation to become an external member of the University of Huddersfield’s Governing Council.
In the late 1990s, and following a two-year participation on a high profile and pioneering executive leadership programme, Delroy became a member of the Policy, Strategy and Faculties Executive of the Yorkshire Building Society before moving on to a series of senior and executive roles in local government and social housing.
For several years he held high profile roles, including Director of Property Solutions at Shipley-based Incommunities Group, one of the UK’s largest providers of social housing.
Delroy moved on to become Chief Operating Officer for the Royal Borough of Greenwich and was then appointed Executive Director of Nottingham City Homes. During his time at NCH, it was universally recognised that his inspirational leadership positively contributed to the company winning the coveted Landlord of the Year 2018.
He took up his current post as the Managing Director for York NHS in April this year. He has full responsibility for its private commercial business, which has an annual turnover of £110 million and over 1,200 employees.

“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have worked with some of the UK’s most influential business leaders, and as a longstanding Huddersfield citizen, I am immensely proud to have being appointed to this prestigious university, which I know is very well respected and nationally recognised as one of the best in class. As such, joining the Council has formalised what I have always felt – that I belong here and it can become a legacy of my life's work and a career highpoint.”
In addition to executive roles, Delroy has a number of non-executive directorships for organisations that include the British Library and the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). He is the current chair of the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Directors.
He has also delivered keynote addresses at major conferences and has published articles on topics that include skills shortages within the construction industry and remains an in-demand business speaker at schools and universities throughout the UK.
Delroy Beverley has been warmly welcomed to the Council by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Cryan.
“Delroy is a dynamic individual, based in Yorkshire for most of his career, and has a great track record for leading transformation at large and complex organisations. He is very well-equipped to help ensure that our University, as it emerges from a difficult period dealing with COVID-19, moves on to even better things in future,” said Professor Cryan.
