You might have heard of Freshers' Festival, well this year we've mixed things up to bring Huddersfield Students an even bigger and better Welcome to make sure they feel part of the HSU Community.
We recognise that here in Huddersfield we have a large number of students that either commute to campus, come from overseas or are classed as mature. Over the last few years we have adapted our Freshers’ programme to reflect this, however even the name Freshers’ is often a turn-off for some students that don’t understand what it means or think it’s not for them. So after a few years of deliberation we have decided to change our language and have re-branded Freshers’ to Welcome Festival!
As always we will be looking to build the hype and excitement for those students joining us in September through our Facebook group, Welcome Festival website and mailing lists. The full line-up and tickets to all events will be released on Thursday 15 August (A-Level Results Day) at 10.00am.
Welcome Festival starts on the 7 September as students begin moving into halls. Our Halls and HudLets Team accompanied by some of our Sports Clubs and Societies will be welcoming students to Huddersfield. There are various events inside and outside each of halls in the run up to the headline week.
This will take place on Monday 23 (10.00am-3.00pm) and Tuesday 24 September (11.00am – 3.00pm). This is the perfect opportunity for students to grab some free pizza from Domino’s, meet all the Sports Clubs and Societies and find out what’s on offer from local businesses around Huddersfield. This year the Students’ Union will be out in the tents on University Square shouting about the amazing opportunities to get involved with the HSU Community.
The headline week of Welcome Festival (previously known as Freshers’ Week) begins on Monday 23 September. The headline week still contains lots of the big events we have each year like HudCrawl, HudComedy and HudLive but with even more accessible, mature student, and family friendly events like Mature Cheddar, Laser Tag and Coffee Crawl. It doesn’t end there, Welcome Festival extends into October, making it a month-long celebration!
We have organised a Roller Disco and a Lazer Tag Area that courses can book to support students to create a course based community. These activities are based in TeamHud and will be running through the afternoon on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 September. If you’d like to book a time slot for your course or would like more information please contact our events team.
