You must apply for your visa as soon as you receive your CAS but within six months of the course start date mentioned on your CAS. This will ensure that you arrive at the University of Huddersfield in time for the start of the enrolment period for your course.
Further detail about the 'Student' visa as well as making a visa application in your country and getting visa documentation ready is available on our 'Student' visa web page or you can contact our immigration team.
The University has many different Global Student Societies. They are happy to give advice and information or answer any questions you may have. Alternatively you can contact the University’s International Student Experience Manager who will put you in contact with them.
You will get an email one month before your enrolment starts and will be in three stages. You will not be fully enrolled until you have completed stage three. To begin stage one, you must have an unconditional offer.
Stage 1 - Pre-enrol
Stage 2 - Immigration checks
Stage 3 - ID card collection
Pre-enrolment is now open, this is where you will be asked to update your personal details for the University and upload a photo for your student campus card. You can only do this once you have received your Unconditional Offer from the University. You will be sent a stage 1 email from the University with information on how to do this, from a mailbox called international.updates@hud.ac.uk. If you do not have an unconditional offer you cannot pre-enrol.
In Step 2 of pre-enrolment (my details) you will be asked for a term-time address and UK mobile number. If you do not have these yet please put your local details in again and remember to update these when you arrive in the UK.
Not received a link to do pre-enrolment?
Please check you have provided us with your correct email address. Also check your junk/spam folder. If you do not receive an email, please check with your agent or regional office contact as they may have received the email on your behalf.
Having problems logging in to pre-enrol?
We have put this checklist together of common problems:
Book a University approved taxi to take you to your accommodation
Prices and times
Please ensure you wear a face covering for any journey in a taxi, on a bus or on a train. Please see the government guidelines for more information.
If you book this service, this ensures that no matter what time you arrive (day or night) there will be a University approved driver at the airport to meet you and take you to your accommodation in Huddersfield. This service is open to all international students arriving into the UK.
The University’s approved taxi company is called Edgerton Private Hire. You will receive a confirmation email from them once your taxi is booked.
The cost of this service for one passenger is between £50 and £75, which is payable direct to the driver. Please make sure you have some British currency with you on arrival into the UK for the taxi fare.
For bookings with more than one passenger, a larger taxi or multiple taxis are required. The costs for multiple passengers are as follows:
One passenger from Manchester Airport | £60 |
Two passengers from Manchester Airport | £65 |
Three to four passengers from Manchester Airport | £85 |
One passenger from Leeds / Bradford Airport | £50 |
Two passengers from Leeds / Bradford Airport | £55 |
Three to four passengers from Leeds / Bradford Airport | £70 |
One passenger from Liverpool Airport | £75 |
Two passengers from Liverpool Airport | £85 |
Three to four passengers from Liverpool Airport | £105 |
Arrivals from other airports, such as London Gatwick or Heathrow, we would recommend using public transport as this is the cheapest and fastest way to travel.
Please complete the short booking form. The taxi company will then email you to confirm the booking. They will also send you information on how to meet you when you arrive at the airport so it is important they have your correct email address and contact number.
IMPORTANT: Please note bookings must be submitted at least five days in advance of your arrival. We cannot arrange the University approved taxi driver service without you completing the booking form. Please also read the confirmation details when you received them and that you understand the cancellation terms.
This service is the only official University of Huddersfield partnership taxi service and it has been negotiated at a discounted price especially for our students. We cannot take responsibility for any other service arranged by a student.
If you book this service but do not arrive or do not use the service, you will be invoiced and charged for the taxi. If you wish to cancel your booking, please email edgertonprivatehire@gmail.com with at least 48 hours' notice and no charges will be made.
*The cost of this service is subject to change
You can choose to make your own travel arrangements to Huddersfield directly from Manchester International Airport. There are frequent train services from Manchester International Airport to Huddersfield train station. A standard class single ticket costs approximately £25.00 anytime and the train journey from Manchester International Airport to Huddersfield takes around one hour.
Once you arrive at Huddersfield train station, you then need to make your way to your pre-booked accommodation. There is a taxi stop outside the front of the station. Use the first taxi at the front of the line of taxis. Make sure you have money to pay for the journey, usually £5.00 - £10.00. Cash machines are available at the train station.
Please be advised that if your flight lands into the UK late at night or in the early hours of the morning, the University approved taxi driver service is more suitable as you may have to wait a number of hours at the airport for the next available train to Huddersfield.
We wish you a safe and pleasant journey, and look forward to welcoming you to Huddersfield!
Within 24-hours of completing Stage 1, you will receive an email from a mailbox called international.updates@hud.ac.uk with some questions to complete your online immigration check form. Please only complete this form when you have arrived in the UK.
Once your answers have been checked, which can take up to three working days, you will receieve a further email for stage three.
After you have received your stage three email you can collect your Student ID card from the International Office in Student Central building. You will need:
There will be further immigration checks, without these we cannot give you your Student ID card. When you have collected your Student ID card you have completed enrolment.
Opening a bank account can take time and patience, as different banks have slightly different procedures and requirements for certain types of documentation. It can take a couple of weeks to open a bank account in the UK and so we advise that you bring enough money to cover your first two weeks in Huddersfield. The best way to do this is using travellers’ cheques or a bank/credit card rather than carrying cash.
Opening a UK Bank Account:
Please note that you will need the following documents when you open a bank account in the UK:
This is open to all students to register with and is located on campus next to the University’s Business School. You can view the campus map to see where it is located.
