Cycling to Campus

Our cycle to work schemes, onsite facilities and University bike group, all aim to encourage active travel to campus.  Incorporating cycling into your commute, even just a couple of times a week, has an array of benefits for both you and the environment.

Cycle to Work Scheme

We provide access to several cycle to work schemes. These schemes allow staff members to purchase bikes and make tax and national insurance savings of up to 47%. Each scheme has an upper spend limit and all deductions are made over a 12 month period.

The bike must be primarily used for commuting journeys but it can also be used for additional leisure journeys. As well as covering the purchase of traditional push bikes, the schemes also include e-bikes and some safety accessories.

University Bike User Group

The cycling community here at the University of Huddersfield have come together with the Sustainability Team to form a Bike User Group (BUG). The purpose of this group is to promote cycling at the University to new and existing cyclists, while working with the Sustainability Team to share ideas, concerns and to organise events. Members of the BUG vary from keen cyclists who commute regularly, to complete beginners who are building the confidence to cycle to work!

The BUG has designated Cycling Champions located in each building on campus to help orientate new cyclists on the routes and facilities on and around campus.
