Aidan Froggatt

Cyber Security and Digital Forensics MSc (Distance Learning)

Aidan is completing a Cyber Security and Digital Forensics MSc (Distance Learning) at the University of Huddersfield while working full-time as an IT Service Desk Analyst at Sudlows, an international data centre provider. The MSc has set Aidan on a confident path towards his career goal of working in Digital Forensics in the emergency services sector.

Course content that aligns perfectly with my career aspirations

The online Cyber Security and Digital Forensics MSc offered at the University of Huddersfield was most suited to my career aspirations when compared to courses at other universities. During my IT career, I discovered Digital Forensics, which is becoming increasingly critical for modern policing. A role in this area would not only allow me to fulfil my dream of serving within the emergency services but also enable me to utilise the skills I’ve honed over the years. The industry is highly competitive, and the MSc provides the required skills and knowledge to excel, particularly the modules on Digital Forensics, Cyber Security, Networking and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Flexible learning that fits around my busy schedule

Another key reason I chose to study at Huddersfield was the flexibility the course offered. The MSc is inclusive, opening the opportunity to learn to everyone. It allows learners from various geographic locations to access education without the need to move or travel to campus, and it also offers learners the opportunity to study around their jobs, family responsibilities, or other commitments. This was particularly important to me as I work full-time, so I needed a course that could be studied 100% online where I could learn at my own pace and not travel to campus for classes.

I believe this is the best course on the market. The MSc aligns perfectly with my career aspirations in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics.

Enhancing cyber security skills and knowledge for now and the future

The MSc is enhancing my knowledge and practical skills to excel as a Digital Forensics specialist as well as benefiting me in my current role as an IT professional where I troubleshoot, plan, and configure various things from networking to cyber security. I can apply my learning to my job in my workplace. For instance, I’ve been able to apply the knowledge gained from the networking module to a range of technologies, including firewalls, local networks, domain controllers, and servers. While I had observed these technologies at work, I never had the chance to interact with them due to a lack of expertise. Now, I'm trusted to work alongside experienced colleagues on these technologies, and I’ve enjoyed the experience. I’m looking forward to the upcoming modules, as they will further enhance my capabilities and ability to make a positive impact. I’m particularly looking forward to completing the Individual Project in year two where I’ll get the chance to work independently on the project and draw on all my learning.

A comprehensive course with interesting content

I’ve enjoyed all the modules I’ve studied so far. All included a good amount of learning material and helped expand my knowledge. The course is a perfect balance of teaching and self-study, and I’m incredibly happy so far with what has been covered in the course. My favourite module is Digital Forensics, which was the first module I covered. It offered a great introduction to the MSc and how it was going to be taught. I learnt a lot on the module and got one of the highest grades I’ve ever achieved, which I’m very pleased with! The learning content available such as the recorded lectures and other material readily available on the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Brightspace, is always high quality and engaging.

To wrap up

If you’re interested in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, I would certainly recommend this course. I believe this is the best course on the market. The MSc has been aligned perfectly with my career aspirations in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics. Its flexible structure allows me to balance work and study. The comprehensive content and practical knowledge enriched my current IT role and prepared me for future opportunities. With engaging learning materials and a supportive environment, this MSc has been both enjoyable and invaluable, setting me on a confident path toward my career goals.
