Industry innovation and infrastructure 2023

 

The University’s teaching and learning, research and knowledge transfer make major contributions to sustainable development in industry, innovation and infrastructure locally, nationally and globally.

 

Learning and students

The University’s outstanding record of graduate employability underpins the Triple Gold award received in the September 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework results. This record was also reflected in the Gold award it received under the UK Government’s Teaching Excellent Framework in June 2017 and was a key aspect to the submission which led to its success in the inaugural HEA/AdvanceHE Global Teaching Excellence Award (2017). The University has been for many years a major provider of higher-level skilled graduate employees to the Leeds City Region economy, the largest city region economy outside London. And graduate skills are contributing globally as Huddersfield students impact on economies in more than 130 countries world-wide.

 

Public and Business Engagement

The University is committed to developing activity with a range of external partners, including in industry and the professions. Towards a goal of 5,000 unique end-user engagements per year, to be achieved by 2025, in 2021-22 the University recorded a total of around 4,500 such interactions.

 

Research

Research groups, centres and Institutes across the University are delivering research and knowledge transfer activity which enables sustainable growth. For example, all the individual and group research activity in the Huddersfield Business School is mapped against the Sustainable Development Goals.

Research contract income, in spite of Covid19 disruption, in 2020/21 stood at £12.7m and increased to £13.7m in 2021/22. The University’s goal is for income to reach £30m in 2024/25.
