Nick Hardiker is Professor of Nursing & Health Informatics and Dean of the School of Human & Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield, UK. Prior to joining the School in 2018, Nick was Associate Dean (Research & Innovation) at the University of Salford’s School of Health & Society. Nick is a Registered Nurse with a background in general Nursing and with Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, UK. He has nearly 30 years' experience of theoretical and applied research in Health Informatics (Digital Health), with a particular emphasis on supporting practice and care. Nick’s main area of expertise is around standardized languages and ontologies that support clinical applications of information and communication technology.
Nick continues to publish widely and was for 10 years Editor-in-Chief of Informatics for Health and Social Care. Nick previously held leadership roles at the UK Royal College of Nursing (as eHealth Adviser) and the International Council of Nurses (as Director of the International Classification for Nursing Practice and eHealth Programmes). He is currently Chair of the NHS England Digital Health Nursing Research Panel and Vice Chair (Working Groups) of the International Medical Informatics Association Nursing Informatics Working Group (IMIA NI).
Nick is a qualified Executive Coach and Mentor, a Chartered Manager and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, the American Academy of Nursing, and the American College of Medical Informatics and was the recipient of the 2017 Virginia K. Saba Informatics Award.
