Welcome

The University of Huddersfield understands the value of service user and carer involvement for enhancing our work across programmes. Hearing stories of lived experience and the personal perspectives of those most affected by professional practice can help our students to better understand the needs and expectations of people they will be working with. Personal insights, along with academic theory, practice learning, and research evidence, contribute to students becoming effective professionals. Similarly, public involvement in research design strengthens the relevance, quality, and impact of research, leading to significant advancements in evidence-based practice.

People who have received healthcare, social care and other public services are in the best position to comment on their needs and how they would like to be treated. Members of the public get involved in a wide range of activity, from co-designing courses and recruiting new students, through to sharing their experiences during teaching and offering their opinions in student assessments. We welcome people from all backgrounds including those caring for a family member, partner or friend.

The Public Partnership Group (PPG) is the collective name we have given to the patients, service users, carers and other members of the public who contribute to the teaching, learning and research at The University of Huddersfield. The group have been active at the university for over 15 years. There are over 100 members in the PPG, which continues to grow. Support is provided by a dedicated team of staff who are experienced in working in this field to ensure that involvement is rewarding.
